Skopje Arrival
Arrival at Skopje International Airport. Transfer at the hotel. In the afternoon we start the city tour of Skopje, inhabited since at least 4000 BC. We visit the city center, the old bazaar, Kale Fortress, and the memorial house of Mother Tereza. Welcome dinner in a local restaurant, with traditional menu and overnight.
Vodno Mountain Walk – Boat tour through Matka canyon – Tetovo – Mavrovo National Park
This morning we start our Macedonia walking tour with Mount Vodno, located in Skopje. It is a 1066m height mountain and provides panoramic views of Skopje. We reach the Millennium Cross, an iron cross which celebrates 2000 years of Christianity in Macedonia. Millennium Cross has a height of 66m and it is one of the largest crosses in the world.
Further we transfer for lunch and boat tour to Matka Canyon, a protected nature reserve and home to several medieval monasteries, caves, and rich flora and fauna.
Leaving Skopje we proceed towards Mavrovo National Park, where we will spend the overnight.
Along the way we stop in the small town of Tetovo, and visit the painted mosque. Over 30,000 eggs were used to make the glaze and paint for Tetovo’s artwork. Evening in Mavrovo, for dinner and overnight.
Hiking in Vevcani – Ohrid
Today we continue to the panoramic mountain village of Galičnik, an abandoned village that connects through the mountains. Walking down we continue to another village, Janče, which overlooks the Radika River Valley. We make a short visit to Rajcica Monastery, before continuing to Vevchani, an authentic village at the foothills of Mountain Jablanica. We enjoy some locally produced, cheese and wines.
Bus transfer towards Ohrid, the UNESCO town where we will spend the next 2 overnights.
Ohrid City Tour with a walk to Gorno Konsko village and a boat ride in the lake
This morning we take an easy to moderate hike on a forest path to village Gorno Konsko, where we can enjoy the beautiful views of Ohrid Lake and the old rural traditions of this abandoned village.
After the hike we return to the city center, where we take a guided tour. In it’s narrow alleys lies history dating back over 3.000 years. Both the city and the lake are inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage list. We walk through the streets of Ohrid to reach the highest point – Samuil’s Fortress, which offers wonderful landscapes of the city and Lake. We will visit the cathedral Church of St. Sofia, the Ancient theatre, and from the medieval church St. John the Evangelist.
Boat tour in the lake. Dinner by the lake with fresh trout menu, and overnight.
Ohrid – Hiking in Galicica National Park – Wine tasting in Demir Kapija
This morning we will enjoy some spectacular views of the Ohrid and Prespa Lakes and the surrounding mountains, while hiking to Magaro Peak. This is the highest point on Mount Galicica, with a height of 2255m. We continue walking down through the Galicica pass, before the bus transfer to Prespa Lake and the town of Bitola.
Along the way we visit the archeological site of Heraclea Lyncestis, an ancient Greek city in Macedonia, ruled later by the Romans. It was founded by Philip II of Macedonia in the middle of the 4th century BC. Famous for its dazzling mosaics, ancient theater and Roman baths, Heraclea is the most vividly preserved city from the surviving Ancient Macedonian Empire in the country.
In the afternoon we reach the wine region of Demir Kapija. A lot of Macedonian wineries are located in this area. We will enjoy degustation of local wines and snacks in the evening. If time permits we can take a walk through the vineyards. Overnight in Demir Kapija.
Walking in Kratovo and farewell dinner in Skopje
This morning we take a short walk up into the meadows above Kratovo town, where we can enjoy some panoramic views and meet with the local people, farmers or beekeepers. The walking today will last only 2 hours, and then we transfer towards Skopje for our last overnight in Macedonia. Free afternoon to relax from the trip or explore Skopje further. Farewell dinner in a traditional restaurant with traditional menu and live folk show.

Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning in Skopje. Transfer to the airport for the return flight.
